मस्कत, ओमान – The travel and tourism sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries has experienced substantial growth, significantly contributing to the region’s economic development. According to recent data from the GCC Statistical Centre (GCC-Stat), the sector’s contribution to the GCC’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached approximately 11.4% by the end of 2024, amounting to OMR95 billion (USD 247.1 billion). This represents a notable increase of approximately 31.9% compared to the figures recorded in 2019.​

Looking ahead, the GCC-Stat forecasts that the travel and tourism sector’s contribution to the region’s GDP will rise to 13.3% by 2034, equating to OMR142.8 billion (USD 371.2 billion). This growth is expected to be driven by an average annual growth rate exceeding 4.2% during the period from 2024 to 2034.​

Intra-GCC Tourism Growth

The data also highlights a significant increase in intra-GCC tourism. Between 2019 and 2023, the average annual growth rate in the number of tourists traveling between GCC countries reached 41.5%. In 2023, intra-GCC tourists accounted for 26.5% of the total international tourists arriving in GCC countries.
