Finnair Expands Summer 2026 Nordic Network with New Route to Alta and Increased Frequencies Across Scandinavia
Finnair is enhancing its Nordic presence for the summer 2026 season with expanded routes and increased flight frequencies across several popular destinations. A key highlight is the launch of a new route to Alta in Northern Norway, renowned for its dramatic Arctic landscapes, outdoor adventures, and awe-inspiring Northern Lights. This new service will operate five times weekly between March 29 and October 22, 2026, via Kittilä, using a 68-seat ATR aircraft.
Alta’s rising popularity as a cruise port adds to its appeal, making this new connection timely for both leisure travelers and cruise passengers.
In addition to Alta, Finnair is increasing its summer service to Tromsø, another stunning coastal city in Norway. Flights from Helsinki will run five times a week via Rovaniemi. Previously offered only during the winter season, this summer launch expands access to Norway’s northern gems. Moreover, service between Ivalo and Kirkenes will grow to five weekly flights—two more than last summer.
Finnair is also boosting its connections to the Nordic capitals. Starting summer 2026, both Stockholm and Copenhagen will see an increase of seven weekly flights, while Reykjavik will receive two more weekly services, offering travelers more flexibility and convenience.
During the peak holiday period from June through early August, Finnair will resume flights to Billund, Visby, and Bodø. These routes will be serviced at high frequencies: Billund with eight, Visby with seven, and Bodø with six weekly flights. Additionally, Mariehamn in the Åland Islands will benefit from two more weekly flights.
Spring skiers heading to Lapland can also expect improved connectivity. Finnair will ramp up services to Ivalo and Kittilä throughout April 2026, with Ivalo receiving up to 17 weekly flights and Kittilä up to 23. Frequencies will taper slightly from April 27 to May 3, with Ivalo seeing 13 and Kittilä 19 weekly flights.
Finnair is transforming summer travel across Norway, Sweden, and Denmark in 2026 with a new route to Alta and increased flight frequencies throughout the Nordic region. Travelers can expect smoother, more connected journeys to top Scandinavian destinations and Arctic adventures.
This robust expansion underscores Finnair’s commitment to strengthening its Nordic footprint and meeting growing demand for both adventure and cultural travel throughout the region.
